Millipede Status and Countermeasures

Current Situation

Trees encroaching from the neighboring land have become a serious problem. We cut back the branches about once a year, but they grow so fast that they cross the boundary again in no time.

Because the area is shaded, the trees tend to grow rapidly in search of sunlight.

We cut down the trees growing from lower positions, but we had not been able to deal with those growing higher up because the work is too difficult.

The land is on a slope, which makes it hard to cut trees while staying safe. We have repeatedly asked the owner of the neighboring land to address the situation, but they have not responded.

Besides the trees, there is also a thick overgrowth of bamboo grass.

The trees growing from higher up spread their branches and block the sunlight.

The encroaching trees block the sun and the property gets less light. The hours of sunshine have decreased, and as a result the winters have become harsher and colder.

Even though it is October, the millipedes are still active.

They are gathering on the damp parts of the concrete blocks.

Countermeasures

We cut down the trees with a chainsaw.

Unfortunately, we weren’t able to take photos after the work.
