Overview
The bathroom ventilation fan started making strange noises, so we decided to replace it with a new one.
Note: In Japan, wiring and electrical equipment work at locations that receive power at 600 V or less, such as ordinary homes, small shops and offices, requires at least a Class 2 Electrician license. Doing this work without a license is illegal.
Here it is with the fan cover removed.

The installed unit was made by Takasu Sangyo Co., Ltd.

It was extremely loud, with a ringing metallic sound. The lubricant has probably run out.
A rough measurement with a smartphone app showed as much as 75 dB.
To proceed with the replacement, we first measured the size of the vent opening.

We bought a new fan at a home improvement store and installed it. The size was slightly different, so it took a bit of force to fit it in.
The work ended up running into the night.
We chose a Mitsubishi unit as the new fan.

After the replacement it is very quiet and comfortable to use.
