Overview
The crescent lock (the latch that locks the window) on the outer window had become stiff and its appearance had deteriorated, so I’m replacing it with a new one.
The inner window has already been done.
I bought the following product as the replacement part.

When I actually tried to install it, I found that the outer window had been installed about 40 years ago, and the crescent’s mounting position (offset) differs from current standards, so it couldn’t be fitted as is. On recent crescent locks, the screw holes sit about 5 mm further out.
So I drilled new holes in the sash and mounted it with roughly M4 self-tapping screws.

Here is the crescent after installation. The receiving catch was also slightly out of position, but it can be adjusted with two screws, so a little fine-tuning finished the job.

A ¥2,000 investment improved the look and made the window much nicer to open and close. It’s highly cost-effective maintenance.
