First, the design. We measure the room.
Over a meal at Saizeriya, we roughly plan out the dimensions.

Since we’ll be cutting large boards with a circular saw, we make a guide for the saw.

Here is the area around the bath before. There’s a lot of dead space.

We couldn’t find screws with black heads, so we painted stainless steel screws black.

The stays weren’t available in black either, so we painted them too.

We located the studs behind the wallpaper and screwed the shelf brackets into them. We bought the brackets at a home improvement store, and these did come in black.

After that, all that’s left is to cut the shelf boards, attach the brackets, and mount everything on the wall.
Here is the finished result.

Every shelf board was sanded and finished with wax.

The total cost of materials came to about ¥13,000. The boards are fairly deep, so they were a bit on the expensive side.
Almost all of the materials were sourced from the Super Viva Home home improvement store.
