Overview
We replaced the existing intercom with a newer, more capable model. Here is the product we used.
Before Installation
An Aiphone KD-1M was installed. It worked without any problems, but modern intercoms offer features that are much better for security, such as video recording and automatic answering on your behalf, so we decided to replace it.
After Installation

The LCD screen is much sharper, making it easier to see.
It also records visitors.
To prevent the outdoor door station from deteriorating, we later fitted a protective cover.

Summary
- With the automatic answering feature, visitors can be handled even when nobody is home, which gives peace of mind. The unit itself costs around ¥15,000, but since it lets you record visits while you are away as well as suspicious people, it is a worthwhile investment for security.
- The installation itself is relatively easy, but note that the outdoor door station is exposed to wind and rain, so screws and other metal parts are prone to rust.
